Too long sleep negatively affects our health
Although it might seem that these days the problem is rather a sleep deficiency than its excess, it must be admitted that the second of these phenomena, despite appearances, is not rare at all. Stress, hurry, excessive duties, spending long hours in front of a computer and TV are not really conducive to sleeping the right amount of time, but research shows that a significant proportion of people sleep longer than it should. Is it wrong? Well, it turns out that it is. Both the shortage and excessive sleep are dangerous to our health and … our figure.
It is difficult to precisely determine how much sleep a person needs, because this aspect should be considered in relation to at least several factors. The most important of these is age. Infants need 16 to 18 hours of sleep per day, children between 3 and 5 years of age are just 11 – 13 hours and demand is systematically lowered until they are between 8 and 10 hours per day in adolescence. It is assumed that adults need from 7 to 9 hours of sleep per day, but in the sixth decade of life, demand again starts to decrease consistently, the cause of this phenomenon is not known. In addition, the need for sleep increases in the case of severe mental stress and excessive physical activity. Although our body has a built-in mechanism that regulates the circadian rhythm and is able to send appropriate signals about the need for sleep, it is also exposed to many disturbing factors that make the internal clock not always behave properly. What’s more, we ourselves, consciously or unconsciously influence the precision of its operation.
As I just mentioned, an adult needs between 7 and 9 hours of sleep a day. Except in exceptional situations, therefore, spending more time on night rest should be considered worrying. Of course, the dream itself is pleasant and useful, but in a situation where it lasts too long, it can promote undesirable health effects. The list of potential consequences is long and includes
So you can say that the potential effects of excessive long lying in bed are similar to those we can experience while sleeping too short. In addition, too much sleep promotes the occurrence of sleep disorders, which seems logical. First and foremost, this is experienced by people trying to get enough sleep. Already one, too long sleep session can cause that the next night we will sleep just worse, in the morning we will get sleepy and we will want to sleep again.
