Breakfast is our most important meal during the day. It plays a significant role because it is the first dose of energy after a longer break. When eating 5 regular meals during the day, breakfast should provide 30% energy – that is about 1/3 of our daily calorie intake should fall for breakfast.

If we do not eat breakfast, then the effectiveness of our work decreases, and in children and adolescents, fatigue and poorer learning results occur.

If you skip breakfast, your body does not know whether you are starving or eating less because you want to lose weight, or because it lacks food – and then it starts to postpone fat for later.

What to choose?

The basis of a full-blown breakfast should be milk served in the form of a milk drink (eg yogurt, kefir, milkshake, cocoa) or milk soup with the addition of bran, dried fruit and flakes, of course not sugar-fed (we must read the labels). A small amount of fat and protein products of high quality are also recommended (eggs, cheese, sausages and fish in various forms, eg pastes), as well as dark whole-grain bread. We can not forget about vegetables and fruits.

Ideally, we should drink a glass of water immediately after getting up from bed and eat a low carb fruit (eg grapefruit, apple, plums, strawberries, cherries) and then exercise for about 30 minutes – just a quick walk that we can do anywhere or any activity we like. Below are three suggestions for a healthy breakfast

1. Blueberry yogurt n- half a glass of natural yogurt, n- 3 tablespoons oatmeal, n- 1 tablespoon linseed, n- half a glass of berries.

2. Scrambled eggs with paprika and salmon n- 2 eggs, n- red pepper, n- 50g smoked salmon (2 slices), n- 1 slice of wholemeal bread.

3. Nutritious sandwich n- 1 slice of pumpernickel, n- 1 teaspoon of soft margarine, n- a few leaves of iceberg lettuce, n- 2 slices of lean ham such as poultry, n- 1 kiwi.

When it comes to drinks, in the summer season the best is carbonated water or not, depending on our taste preferences, preferably with the addition of mint and lime or lemon. In the winter season, green tea, yerba mate or a warm ginger infusion is recommended.
